Results from a short mini-stream with @taurson earlier this week. Applejack is supposed to be a little taller than Pinkie, but Ponk is thiccer than AJ. All those sweets have to go somewhere!
And it’d been entirely too long since I’d drawn my griffon gal, Gia. Wanted to add more muscle to show her as the intimidating mountain of catbird she really is.

ATG VII Day 10: Draw a pony fighting / Draw a pony grappling
Decided to mix it up and go non-canon for this one. So here’s a misguided stallion picking a fight way out of his weight class with the indomitable Gia. (A flashback to a certain brawl from @gia-does-things.)
I love my griffon gal. I need to draw her more often.
Stream sketches of my three girls: Gia the griffon, Shairi the zebra, and Minutiae the bat pony. Might almost be time to bring @gia-does-things back to life. We’ll see.
Gia’s a bit defensive.
This new job is kicking my ass. I went from drawing multiple times a day to barely once a week. That’s unacceptable by my own standards. I’m not sure what to do though, besides tough it out. But if this is how it feels after barely three weeks, prospects for improvement are not looking bright. It literally hurt to do this sketch, my fingers are so sore.
For the last few of you still waiting for your commissions, I apologize. I only get one day off a week now, and I spend most of that recuperating and running all my errands. I hate making y’all wait, so thanks again for your patience.

She’s back!
It’s been way too long since I’ve updated Gia. Combine writer’s block, artist’s block, a smidge of depression, a pinch (well, more like a few cups) of losing my job, and my cat passing, and it’s pretty easy to get sidetracked. On the bright side, taking so much time off from her has given me ample time to improve in general. I’m not disgusted with my previous work, but I can definitely look back and see areas where I know I can do much better now.
I’d like to get back to regular updates (at least weekly) by the start of the year. But in the meantime, I’d like to ask y’all for a favor.
See, for the life of me, I cannot come up with a color scheme for Gia that I am happy with. I’d been wanting to do more color art of her, but it’s kind of hard when you can only picture her in black and white. So I figure why not ask my followers? Surely someone out there is handy with a pastel palette.
I’ll take as many suggestions as y’all have to give. If there’s no clear favorite, I’ll take the ones I like the most and put them to a poll a little later. If possible, I’d like to reach a decision by the end of the week. Let’s say…Sunday night?
So how about it? Give me some colors for her feathers, her fur, and her eyes. Even better if you color the sketch and submit it, but not necessary. It’s better than just saying “red and black.”

Yet another catbird sketch. After some thought (and losing all my progress last night when my power went out during a thunderstorm), I realized I wasn’t really happy with the way Gia was turning out. Honestly, she looks too much like Gilda, even when I made a concentrated effort to make sure that didn’t happen. Gilda is “default griffon,” it seems. Very easy to fall back on her.
So how about this design? I’ve always thought owls are majestic, fearsome creatures. Highly intelligent and expressive, too. This sketch is based on the Great Horned Owl, one of the largest and most recognizable species. Might do a bit of tweaking with it, but I like the new look so far.
I kept the freckles, though. I love freckles, in case that wasn’t obvious by now.
