I like pandas.

Hey y'all! It's art and stuff.

And here I thought you were the princess of snark.
It’s 4 am. At 3, I was trying to draw a cute, sleepy Twi, but I struggled for half an hour and failed miserably. Then I wanted to draw a strong, confident Twi, but I struggled for another 20 minutes...

And here I thought you were the princess of snark.

It’s 4 am. At 3, I was trying to draw a cute, sleepy Twi, but I struggled for half an hour and failed miserably. Then I wanted to draw a strong, confident Twi, but I struggled for another 20 minutes and failed miserably. So then I just threw out the circles and references and techniques and slammed my head against my tablet for 10 minutes and this came out. Now give your royal nerdhorse her due.

“It’s a holiday tradition! Actually, what most ponies assume to be mistletoe–order Santalaceae–is, in fact, holly–order Aquifoliales. A very common mistake to the undiscerning eye. See, mistletoe has rounded leaves with white berries, while holly has jagged leaves with red berries. It’s all VERY fascinating, I have an entire shelf of books about traditional holiday flora, if you’re inter–what? Oh, right, the tradition!”

Today’s My Little Pony Drawing School Drawalong prompts, all done in 30 minutes or less:

“Paint” - Seems I was mistaken about what this prompt was supposed to be, so I did two drawings in MS Paint with my first 30 minutes.

“Space” - Luna subbing in for the Dreamworks’ kid.

“Evil” - Staring it right in the face.

I recently joined the MLPDS for a bit of guidance. I was a little hesitant about joining in on the drawalongs, especially when you’re surrounded by so many other more experienced artists (talk about feeling out of your element). But they’re kinda fun, and force me to be creative in a brief amount of time. What do y’all think so far?

Final doodle (for now), #28, Twilight Sparkle.

And we end the way we started, with Princess Twilight. I wanted to show my improvement over the past month (haha, “month”). Admittedly, this took me a while, as I had a similar problem to when I started.

Use references, people. They’re life savers.

I’ve never been sure how I feel about Twilight. When people rattle off their favorites, she always ends up somewhat middle of the road for me. Sure, I like that she’s a role model type for young children to aspire to (it’s cool to be smart, kids) but over the years, it feels as if she’s lost a bit of what made her special. I miss her snarkiness, her sarcasm, her preparedness, and quick thinking from years of study. And is it just me, or does she tend to forget just how powerful she is when it matters? She gets caught off guard quite a bit (c’mon girl, you can teleport!) Well, I suppose we can’t always be at our best. I’ll even give her a pass for season 5, since the writers made it apparent she was overworked and sleep deprived for most of it. Still, I’d like to see Twilight get back to her roots a bit in Season 6. She might not be Best Princess™, but she’s still our adorkable best bookhorse.

Doodle a day #1, Twilight Sparkle.
Trying to do at least one drawing a day, even if it’s crappy sketch that should have only taken me 10 minutes, but took me an hour because I suck at proportions and couldn’t get the neck or rear hooves right....
