Yet another catbird sketch. After some thought (and losing all my progress last night when my power went out during a thunderstorm), I realized I wasn’t really happy with the way Gia was turning out. Honestly, she looks too much like Gilda, even when I made a concentrated effort to make sure that didn’t happen. Gilda is “default griffon,” it seems. Very easy to fall back on her.

So how about this design? I’ve always thought owls are majestic, fearsome creatures. Highly intelligent and expressive, too. This sketch is based on the Great Horned Owl, one of the largest and most recognizable species. Might do a bit of tweaking with it, but I like the new look so far.

I kept the freckles, though. I love freckles, in case that wasn’t obvious by now.

Moar catbird. Her name is officially Gia. She’s kind of rough around the edges (like most griffons), but she has a soft spot or two.

I wouldn’t suggest touching them though, you might not get your hand/hoof/claw back.

Even though I give him a fair amount of flak (mostly because of his unfortunate choice of favorite horse), I consider Zogzor to be one of my best friends and confidants. He’s a talented artist, and an all-around awesome guy (even if he’s the biggest nerd I know, lel). If any of my followers want to help celebrate, go support him on his DA, or at least wish him a good one. 

Bonus points if you tell him, “You’re pretty good.”

And then I was bored. You know, the kind of bored where nothing sounds entertaining anymore, so you spend an hour trying to draw how you feel, and still never quite capture it?
